Gavin Baskerville has been dishing out jokes for over 25 years. With his dark-edged wit, engaging stage presence, and unique takes on topics from the mundane to the ridiculous, Gavin has carved a name for himself as a well respected favourite of the Australian comedy circuit.
Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, where he launched his career, Gavin moved to Melbourne in 2000 and cut his gag-telling teeth in the most iconic comedy rooms, including The Espy and The Prince Patrick Hotel, where he was mentored by some of Australia’s best known comedians.
His material ranges from insightful social commentary, to hilarious anecdotes and silly puns all flavoured with Gavin’s unique, joyously sardonic style.
With a friendly and energetic style and more material than many in his field, Gavin easily connects with audiences of all ages, effortlessly shifting gears and feeling at home doing family-friendly shows on cruise ships, corporate shows at conferences, adults-only routines in seedy bars and gigs in alternative comedy clubs around Australia and overseas.
Gavin's comedic prowess has earned him accolades and recognition throughout the comedy circuit. He has appeared on The Comedy Channel, The Project and Sunrise and has a script consultant credit and a memorable cameo in the feature film The Merger. He was a recipient of the Brian McCarthy Moosehead Award in 2005 and he has been a warm up act for major international comedians including ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic. And Tommy Tiernan. A veteran of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Hobart Comedy Festival and Perth Fringe World, Gavin also managed and hosted the highly regarded Jokers Comedy Club in Hobart from 2015-2022.
Gavin's jokes have featured in the compilation book Funny Buggers (Penguin, 2011), The Reader's Digest and in the June 16th 2008 issue of Zoo Weekly in a list of 101 best stand-up gags. His tweets have been reprinted in a number of newspapers and on The Huffington Post website.
